Big Joe by Blue Giant’s J1 Joey: Multiple Performance Options in a Single Unit
The newest industrial truck offering from Big Joe by Blue Giant takes multi-tasking to a new and higher level. The J1 Joey is a ready-made solution for customers who need a single vehicle to perform a broad range of material handling functions.
“The J1 Joey combines the elements of an order picker, tugger, and elevating work platform. It presents customers with an alternative to rolling ladders and larger order picking vehicles,” explains Jeff Miller, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Blue Giant. “It was developed based on feedback from a number of retail, warehousing, and distribution companies who were looking for a heavier-duty task support vehicle.”
The J1 Joey can carry a combined load of 800 lbs at a maximum platform height of 126” and be driven at height from one location to another. Its 180-degree articulating central front drive wheel supports tight turning in aisles under 7’, and when the platform is elevated, speed is automatically reduced. An I-beam channel mast behind the operator and combined steel frame ensure excellent stability through every stage of the operating cycle and support safe travel at height. The unit also features a large 31.5” x 20.5” front load tray, a stowable rear tray, and a large operator’s compartment that can carry up to 1,000lbs combined.
According to Barry Miwa, sales manager for Blue Giant’s industrial trucks division, the highly efficient AC drive motor can be programmed through the onboard LCD dash, enabling each operator to set speeds according to preference. The maintenance-free 224AG AGM battery pack has opportunity charge capability and can be recharged at standard 120V outlets.
“The Joey’s responsive ergonomic fingertip controls, which are integrated into the retractable guard rails, include electronic power steering, lift, lower, horn, and customizable speed control,” says Miwa. “To ensure operator safety, the controls are active only when the rails are closed.”
The J1 Joey made its first industry appearance last January at the ProMat Exhibition in Chicago. A unit was available for test-driving on the show floor, and Big Joe by Blue Giant representatives were on hand to answer questions.
“Everyone who took a test drive was impressed by the comfortable drive, ease of use, and maneuverability,” says Miwa. “Now that it’s on the market, customer feedback is confirming that the J1 Joey has fulfilled a long-standing need for a versatile and dependable task support vehicle.”
